Job Description

Do you love working with kids? Minnetonka Community Education is hiring Program Assistants for the Explorers after-school childcare program for the 2026-2027 school year. In this role, you will supervise and support children in grades K–5, implement engaging activities, and help create a safe and fun environment every day. This is a flexible, part-time, year-round position with morning and afternoon shifts available.


Your Role Will Include:

  • Supervise and provide guidance for children in grades K–5 at an elementary school site or MCEC.
  • Implement activities, manage program spaces, and ensure student safety — including during field trips.
  • Assist with preparing project supplies and activity materials.
  • Maintain a safe, caring, and fun environment using the site tracking system.
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, staff, and the broader school community.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism; attend monthly staff meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Age 18 or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No prior childcare experience required — must have an interest in working with children.
  • Ability to follow directions from supervisors and work collaboratively with team members.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Complete required childcare, First Aid, and CPR training prior to first day (online links provided); complete required staff development hours annually.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting pay: $19.08/hr effective July 1, 2025; increasing to $19.65/hr effective July 1, 2026.
  • $0.60 split shift differential applies.
  • Not eligible for medical or dental benefits.
  • Eligible for Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) in accordance with Minnesota law.

Location & Shift Times:

  • Location: Elementary buildings (Minnetonka School District).
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible hours, 12 months per year (two-day minimum).
  • Afternoon shift: 1:00–6:00 PM.
  • Start Date: August 24, 2026.
